As someone who wishes to be a guardian or a volunteer for Richard St. Barbe Baker Afforestation Area and George Genereux Urban Regional Park what activities would you be interested in being involved in?

Here are one or two fabulous ideas which may perk your interest!

Community Engagement:

Event Manager and Committee Members - Planning, leading or serving on a committee for fundraising and educational events. In-person events or virtual events.

Grant Writer - Researching upcoming grants and eligibility, then writing, editing, and submitting the application.

Fundraising Team Member - Bringing in funding for the organization, and ultimately of benefit to the Saskatoon Afforestation Areas.

Donations In Kind Team Member - Bringing in donations - in -kind for the organization, and ultimately of benefit to the Saskatoon Afforestation Areas.

Event personnel - Helping with the coordination of volunteers, registration, greeting, work at the registration table, and serve as needed.

Field Tour Guide - Helping conduct tours of the natural, historic, geological and human geography heritage of the Saskatoon Afforestation Areas. Please indicate which area you are most interested in.

Nature Connect Guide - Helping conduct bioblitzes - ecoquests to register plants and animals on the iNaturalist app forthe Saskatoon Afforestation Areas.

Board Member - Board members serve in the capacity to oversee the direction of the charity along with the financial well-being of the Friends of the Saskatoon Afforestation Areas Inc. A member at large attends all board meetings which are held once a month. They might work on committees as they arise. They may serve as public or community liason bringing information forward from the users of the Saskatoon Afforestation Areas to the Board.

Other Activities

Trail volunteer (GGURP) inspecting Trail alliance / Trail alliance - watching for garbage, screening parking lot area, reporting any issues

Educational programs

Graphic design for posters, pamphlets, conferences, GPS prairie forest app

Create YouTube videos, TikTok videos for submission to board of directors/editor

Create Youth Afforestation Area Activity Circle

General duties like poster distribution, administrative tasks, Membership Drive

Assist with planning the 50th anniversary celebrations

Organize a bottle drive

Social media/web page article submissions to the editor/board of directors

Photography

Write articles for newsletter/publications

Outreach program

iNaturalist plant and animal data inventory surveys, bioblitzes, counts, scavenger hunts, bingo

Volunteer Labour, installing paper posters, delivering pamphlets.

Create maps and trail guides

Work on interpretation

Marketing | Tourism Outreach

Invasive species and Species at risk programmes/reporting

Research into the heritage of the afforestation areas
